Changing Gear: Edd China speaks about his post Wheeler Dealers future

Ex Wheeler Dealers star Edd China has released the first of his new “AskEdd” videos on YouTube, as a way of thanking fans and also answering some of their questions. Edd is seen sitting in a truck outside the Wheeler Dealers workshop in southern California, as he waits for permission to enter and “clear out his desk” so to speak.

Before answering a few fan questions, Edd used the opportunity to take a cheeky shot at Mike Brewer, and the fact that his labour costs on Wheeler Dealers were never paid.

“Most of these suggestions seem to revolve around me coming around to your house to fix up your own personal car project,” Edd says. “Obviously I will consider this, but do bear in mind my rates are now going to be considering more than what I was charging Mike.”

After a fan suggested that Edd should do a budget ‘barn-find or abandoned project restoration series’, he revealed that despite having worked on over 135 cars on Wheeler Dealers, there are still “thousands of other models out there” which he would love to attend to. And with the rise of independent video makers on platforms like YouTube and the slow death of traditional television, Edd has suggested that it will also play a large role in his future. “YouTube is actually a fantastic way to experiment with all kinds of different formats,” he said.

“I’m also planning to have all kinds of other playlists on our YouTube channel, and the idea with that is I get to have a little play around. I might even dabble into cookery and gardening… but probably not! Basically anything you guys want to see I’ll have a go at – particularly, I’m going to get down to the fiddly bits and doing some detail work on some fixes and maybe even breaking stuff spectacularly. We’ll see what happens.” – Edd China

So after all that, did Edd manage to get into the Wheeler Dealers workshop to reclaim his things? Well if the shot of the sunset at the end of the video without a single person in sight is anything to go by, we’d say probably not.

There are always two sides to any break up. No point allocating blame but best to move on. Good luck to WD & Ant will make a good replacement as a spanner man. For Edd can I make a couple of suggestions? There is no similar programme for historic or classic motorcycles. I’d love to see that. Also with the demise of deisel engines there are lots of good quality deisel cars about and potentially many good petrol engines in breakers yards. Surely a marriage of the two could reserrect some worthwhile cars while making interesting viewing.

There’s no one on the street because he recorded it at about 5am when he knew there would be no-one there. Mr China is playing a game of smoke and mirrors…

I agree. After hearing both sides and seeing the latest videos and episodes of the new season with Ant (is that a real name?), I’m leaning towards Mike’s version of the truth

Mark Evans “…” is born series is something which we miss , so something in that format will be perfect for Edd, Mike can’t live with the thing that we mostly watched WD because of garage part not his driving around …
