Meanwhile, Richard Hammond is at the test track to compare the crisp precision engineering of the new Porsche Cayman GTS with the thunderous all-American muscle of the latest Chevrolet Corvette.
Also in this show, James tests the sensational 950-horsepower LaFerrari hypercar hybrid on glorious Italian roads, and singer Olly Murs is the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car.
Some say…
“Some say that his favourite flower is the potato, and that even though he’s seen Fifty Shades of Grey he still thinks BDSM is a driving school. All we know is he’s called the Stig!”

I’m stumped that McLaren would back out of a fight. I’d understand if it were a priceless F1, but that P1 is anything but.
I can sort of understand it. The P1 represents the very best of that McLaren has to offer, and to boot it was developed at the Top Gear Test Track. If it then laps slower than the Porsche or the Ferrari (or both) then it would be highly embarrassing indeed.
Their cowardice just shows their lack of confidence in their machine which means that they themselves know it’s not as good as it can be.
I like Porsche for their confidence and attitude. They are grown up about it. And Do remember the 918 is the most user/road-friendly hyper car of them all. The most responsible and the least brash.
McLaren is relatively Small compared to the other two. So it’s kind of understandable why they are timid. However cowardice is not appealing for a company who is supposed to be on the cutting edge of automotive technology.
The most embarrassing is Ferrari. A company that claims to be the very best a super car can and should be. They sure are afraid.
McLaren were at the very top of my automotive respect list, but this has sent them plummeting. Ferrari are a McLaren wannabe even though they’ve (Ferrari) been around for longer.
Porsche are Germans so they know they’ve made a good car because Porsche don’t BS when it comes to flagship cars.
I hope that TopGearBox upload an online video from this episode on Vimeo like the early ones from this season, not one link to pay an half season from Amazoon…
Do you have any links for it ?
Well, they changed the free videos to the Amazoon Link and… I maded an mistake with the names, the adress that have the online videos is the DailyMotion. Just search for Top Gear season 22 there…
Probably one of the best episodes ever. German sports car, American super car, Italian Hyper car.
