Top Gear Series 22 Sightings & Spoilers

The Top Gear team have been spotted out and about in various locations around the world as they film segments for Series 22. At this stage we should see the first episode go to air in early 2015 – and until I get a confirmed date, I’m taking a stab in the dark and suggesting that it could be January 25th! I’ll update you all as soon as the date is confirmed.

EDIT: Top Gear will return December 27th!

Below is a list of what I’ve found out about Series 22 so far, and I’ll update this post with new sightings as they come to hand.

Last sighting: 24th November 2014.

For those of you who need a spoiler warning: Top Gear Series 22 Spoilers are below!

Top Gear to drive the Hennessey VelociRaptor in Canada

It has been reported that Top Gear will be visiting the Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada, in late November. They will apparently be shooting highway footage of the Hennessey VelociRaptor SUV in the South Okanagan and Boundary Regions. Unfortunately no other information is available at this time.

Update 24th November: Top Gear were spotted in Vancouver last week as they continued filming for Series 22. They were spotted with a yellow Hennessey VelociRaptor, a seemingly normal Ford F150 and a Chevrolet Silverado.

Later in the week they were spotted in the city of Trail, where they were stranded for several hours due to flight delays.

Top Gear in Darwin, Australia

It has been reported on Twitter that Jeremy, Richard, James and the Top Gear film crew all touched down in Darwin, Australia on October 20th.

Update 22nd October: The boys have been spotted driving in Darwin’s rural area, with a bright yellow Bentley Continental, a Nissan GTR and BMW M6. They were later seen further south, drag racing at an airstrip near the Territory town of Batchelor. What exactly they are doing remains a mystery, but we’ve got our fingers crossed that it is some kind of epic roadtrip from Darwin to Adelaide – which would include a 286km stretch of the Stuart Highway which has no posted speed limit. There are also rumors that they will be filming at the Pine Creek open pit mine on Wednesday.

Update 23rd October: Jeremy confirmed on Twitter that they’ll be in Perth by next week, and then posted this rather cryptic photo of him driving on a road with fire on both sides.

Top Gear in Argentina to film a new Epic Roadtrip

Several sources in Argentina have confirmed that Jeremy, Richard, James and the entire Top Gear team are set to arrive in Argentina to film their next epic roadtrip. They’re set to drive along the local Route 40, linking Bariloche to Ushuaia – a distance of serveral hundred miles and a journey which Google Maps cannot calculate! A hotel in Río Negro already has rooms booked on behalf of the three hosts and it is estimated that the journey will start on Friday. It would take almost two weeks to get to Ushuaia. A local paparazzo has snapped photos of the three classic cars which will be used – a Porsche 928 GT, a Lotus Esprit V8 and a Ford Mustang Mach 1. All three are right-hand-drive and were carrying spare tyres.

Top Gear trio caught driving homemade ambulances

On July 30th the Top Gear team were seen driving 3 interesting looking homemade ambulances near Shepherd’s Bush, London.

The aftermath: The owner of Lydd Car Breakers salvage yard has gone on record saying that he provided the cars for this segment – some 25 vehicles in total. “They rang us out of the blue and asked to collect 25 cars. They had been asked to design ambulances, and some of the cars they used are just shells now. It’s incredible.”

Jeremy is testing the BMW i8 Hybrid

Pretty self explanatory – a video has surfaced on YouTube showing Jeremy getting into the new BMW i8 hybrid. Unfortunately the video stops before we can “hear” it, though one would assume it probably rolled away silently…

Jeremy and the i8 were later seen on the Yorkshire Coast.

Top Gear filming in St Petersburg, Russia

Top Gear has been caught filming what looks like a race segment in St Petersburg, Russia. According to bystanders who witnessed the shooting, James drove an electric Renault, Richard used a bicycle and Jeremy apparently travelled by boat. Sound familiar?

Jeremy tests the new C7 Corvette Stingray

Two new tweets have appeared on Jeremy Clarkson’s Twitter account, talking about the new C7 Corvette Stingray’s speedometer: “I know the new Corvette is jolly sporty but 330? Really?”. In reality though, it is a dual-use dial that can flick between MPH and KPH at the press of a button.

BsfONtTCAAAstCU.jpg large

He also tweeted “Filming today is going very well.” and posted the following mysterious photo. Initially we discounted this photo as the result of some sort of fake accident, however the top left side of his head looks rather red – perhaps Jeremy actually did hit his head somehow?

A Twitter user also spotted Jeremy out and about in the C7.

Jeremy and James have a ‘dramatic’ crash in Oxfordshire

According to the Daily Mail, Top Gear have yet again sparked outrage after staging a car crash on the B4437 in Charlbury, Oxfordshire. Apparently four years earlier, a 26-year old woman died in a car crash at the same location and the Daily Mail is convinced that Top Gear chose the location on purpose. The stunt saw James crash his silver Peugeot into Jeremy’s black model of the same car. With the cameras still rolling, a crash recovery truck arrived at the scene and James’ car was hauled out of a ditch and Jeremy’s car was towed out of a crop field. Jeremy’ car had minor damage while James’ had to be towed from the scene.

The Stig drives Jeremy’s P45 (ambulance spec.) in White City

Twitter user @MikeBernieColes spotted the Top Gear team filming at the BBC Broadcast Centre in White City, London. The Stig was seen driving Jeremy’s infamous P45 vehicle – now in ambulance specification. Jeremy Richard and James were also spotted on the scene however there are no other details yet as to what they were doing. Draw your own conclusions for now!

McLaren P1 vs Porsche 918 Spyder Vs Ferrari Laferrari

Jeremy responded to a Tweet regarding these three cars going head-to-head – and it turns out it’s going to be a half hour special! No more news on this yet, but it’ll surely take place on the Top Gear Test Track with a presenter in each car.

Edit 07/06/14 – Jeremy posted the following photos up on Twitter over the past couple of days, showing a Porsche 918 being delivered to the Top Gear Test Track by a lorry driver wearing a rather interesting shirt.

Jeremy Clarkson and the Eagle Speedster

Jeremy recently posted a photo on Twitter of an Eagle Speedster at the Top Gear Test Track. The car in the foreground also appears to be an Eagle Speedster – perhaps a coupe version as a comparison?

Richard Hammond goes wing walking

Photos have emerged of Richard Hammong going wing walking with the Breitling Aerosuperbatic team at RFC Rendcomb. Jeremy and James were apparently waiting back on the ground, drinking champagne.

James May breaks down in a Peugeot 304

James May once said he would carpet bomb Burford immediately if he ever got into power. But the Cotswolds town got its revenge when the Peugeot 304 he was driving broke down at the A40 roundabout.

Update 14/05: The boys were spotted in the Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold – and it now appears to be a continuation of the piece they filmed at Japfest 2014. A small crowd gathered to watch the trio’s hilarious antics as they first went shopping for antiques and then tried to drive home with the items in unfeasibly small cars. Sound familiar? Jeremy bought an antique chair but then had the problem of getting it into a car – a Saw was produced and Jeremy took to the task with great gusto in the street, telling onlookers the antique chair had now become ‘a flatpack.’ Meanwhile, Richard showed up with a huge grandfather clock – almost twice his height. He was later seen trying to fit an antique hatstand into a car and succeeding before driving off with it.

TopGear attend Japfest 2014 at Castle Combe Circuit

Several Redditors spotted the Top Gear team at the 2014 Japfest at Castle Combe Racing Circuit. Apparently ‘Europes biggest Japanese car show’, the team arrived in a selection of European sportscars – namely a Fiat 124, an MGB GT and a Peugeot 304. Good to see Top Gear back to their usual form.

James May will review the Ferrari Laferrari

James May released several tidbits of information on Twitter earlier this month which included a few photos of the new Ferrari Laferrari!

james-laferrari1

This makes perfect sense seeing as Richard already drove the Porsche 918 Spyder and Jeremy reviewed the McLaren P1 already.

Other possible segments which may end up in Series 22

The following two items took place before Series 21 but were not actually used. They may have ended up on the cutting room floor but there is a possibility we may see them in Series 22.

Richard Hammond filming in the Australian Outback

Several tweets from @RichardHammond mention that he has arrived in Australia and is now at a remote cattle station in the outback. With lots of spiders. I doubt we’ll get any more info on why he is out there but we’ll wait and see.

James May filming at the National MicroCar Rally

James May was spotted with the TopGear team, filming at the National MicroCar Rally 2013. Apparently he later got behind the wheel of a Messerschmitt Tiger.

Hehe so TG is testing FORD F150 again. Last time the verdict from Clarkson was:
Worse car ever build! Crappy “beep” piece of “beep”
Agree, just a piece of shit, building quali is so poor. No wonder noone buys that shit in Europe, seems like we have more expectations on the cars we buy and drive 😉

Reply
Goon E. Googoo November 29, 2014 at 9:19 am

Ninety nine percent of Europeans can’t afford to drive an F150 or even less its big brother F250 and its 250 liter fuel tank and the 1 percent that can afford it don’t need too. But looking at Clarkson’s gut it may be the only vehicle he can fit in. LOL !

Reply
ej December 14, 2014 at 9:12 pm

The F150 isn’t designed to be driven to the grocery store and back around a small english town. Its designed for places where it might snow three feet tonight, you might need to haul a massive trailer around, you need to drive 18 hours to get to the next city, i.e. the north, etc. And Jeremy last tested the F150 about a decade ago. They have improved massively since then as many other models have.

I am not surprised the p1 seems to be struggling against the 918. The latter had a far greater development budget and time. The p1’s failure to use brake regeneration just isn’t excusable. Opinion has it that it can’t make a full lap of the nurburgring without losing all its charge, meaning it loses almost 200 Bhp. The ferrari will never be offered to test because ferrari has nothing to gain and everything to lose. Ferrari already sell all their cars so why ruin the mystique? Mclaren sold all p1s, but only after reducing the number to be built to much less than originally planned. It needs to prove itself in a way ferrari doesn’t. Hence all the claims that the p1 would bust everyone else on the track – on a v short track like dunsford maybe – but not in the wet when the porsche would win. And not over long distance – the gtr would easily have it after six laps of the ring

I’m happy with a surprise for the Australian filming. All the presenters have been fairly quiet on twitter which I assume means they are somewhere without much signal or want to keep it quiet. Jeremy did confirm he was here and that was pretty much that….

Between the three hybrids, it will probably be a close heat between the LA Ferrari and the Mclaren P1.
The Ferrari has a top speed of 230mph compared to the Mclaren 217mph.
If the McLaren wasn’t limited it would do 239mph, what was the reason McLaren limited the P1?

Jeremy, tweeted something about a 7 hr. drive in an XKR, from Sienna to Rome…. Also, there is an earlier tweet of an Alpha…. maybe something for Season 22?

Can’t wait to find out why the P 305 suddenly changed license plate color while the number is still the same… I first nnoticed that the latter pictures had even yellower headlights.

Possibly a hark back to previous challenges where modifications are performed at some point in the program.

Hey Rhys – I have a countdown up on the site now with the estimated start date. It’ll most likely be around the end of January or early February 2015 at this stage.

I agree with Ignas, I’m pretty sure the first set of images from the DvD: The Perfect Road Trip because that’s the same boat, same outfit, same area, but I guess we’ll find out

Fantastic program. With the evolution of vehicle technology just in the past year, there is no reason this show, with this cast, should ever be cancelled. This show and the content it has provided in just the last 10 years is historical. I would never watch it again if they changed the cast. This is the only car show I’ll ever watch. Their personalities is what makes the show watchable.

Unfortunately at this stage it is looking like January 2015. I am expecting them to announce that there will be a Christmas special (as they usually do) but I can’t remember the last time they actually released a Christmas special at Christmas time. It was probably the Middle East special back in Series 16!

India Special Series 18 was the last Christmas Special aired around christmas

Hi Top gear team,

I once left a query about top gear coming to india, and got a reply
, it didnt went well, i have seen the clippings and also seen the media response and understand why things didnt worked out for you guys to return to our country. Never mind, these days i am in singapore, nice place, rich people, nice roads, expensive cars, but with a speed limit of 100kmph, how about some time in future, doing an end to end race against the MRT the local railway transport with a million dollar expensive car which many people buy inspite of the speed limit.

Thanks
Rahul

Interesting stuff in the works for Series 22. If all pans out as seen here on TGB, it should be another round of the guys doing some stupid stuff. I have enjoyed TG for a few years, watching most episodes online. I sometimes get bored at some of the antics, as we all know they are staged and one could see one and see them all, so to speak. However, I do enjoy the car analysis/tests they occasionally seem to produce. And, while the “star in a reasonably priced car” segment is usually fun, there are moments when it is all about promoting their latest movie or recording or whatever. The trips are fun to watch and I enjoyed the timeliness of the Ukraine-Croatian trip… quite chilling in some respects.
Being a Yank and living in the US, I can attest to a certain yearning for these chaps to trek to North America and have a true challenge and not just a silly drive through the countryside in hot cars. Let’s see them drive British sports cars on our roads, at or exceeding our speed limits for many hours at a time. Or, maybe get involved in a Cannonball Run from NYC to Long Beach, CA. They could do their own run in cars of their choice, nonstop, and with friends (maybe F1 or Indy Car drivers)? Or, a challenge using Hybrid cars in a long trip on back roads, anywhere in the world? How about electric cars from Shanghai to Moscow? Or, get involved in circumnavigating the Lower 48 states in electric cars, stopping to race them at various race tracks? How about a Trans-Canada run in anything but a car or truck with 4-wheel or all wheel drive, from Cheticamp on Cape Breton, NS to Vancouver, BC?
Onwards, TG Trekkers, to enjoy and survive another series of TG.
BTW, whilst I don’t care what the 3 hosts do in their real lives (they live and love and make mistakes in their lives just as we all do, although Jeremy Clarkson needs to really be less of a curmudgeon and more keen of others in the world), I can salute Richard Hammond for his efforts on producing the pink Lambo for that little girl. THAT was Top Gear!!

The Trans Canada goes all the way past Vancouver to Victoria. And if the guys do a trip along that line, they would discover some phenomenal roads and views a tad further north on Hwy 4 to Tofino. It’s a wild ride.
