The Sun has published fresh allegations today that new Top Gear front-men Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc are “at war”, after reportedly falling out following last month’s ‘burnouts in front of the Cenotaph’ scandal.
According to a report, Evans holds LeBlanc responsible for it turning into a PR disaster. “Since the Cenotaph, their relationship’s deteriorated,” a source told The Sun. “Chris thinks Matt severely damaged the brand. Behind the scenes it’s very frosty between them.”
However, Chris Evans fired back today on Twitter today by saying “Just been on the phone to @Matt_LeBlanc to confirm we are “at war” as reported in The Sun today. He says, “sure, whatever..” Why I oughta!” he said.
LeBlanc later replied with “I’m at war with @achrisevans ? That’s funny , I thought we were pals.”
I’m sorry, but even we have to call BS on this one.
To us, it is growing tiresome reading articles in The Mirror and The Sun about “fallout” from an incident which happened almost a month ago to the day, and there’s a lot about this story that doesn’t make sense. For a start, Matt LeBlanc is an American and most likely knew nothing about the significance of the Cenotaph, and secondly, he most likely had nothing at all to do with the planning of the stunt, which is said to have involved over 6 months of preparation and cost £100,000. LeBlanc only signed on in February. Any idiot can do the math on that.
We’re starting to suspect Top Gear’s insider is blowing things way out of proportion here, in an effort to keep the show in the papers on a weekly basis in the lead up to the launch of Series 23 next month. And it’s working.
