The BBC have announced today that the new series of Top Gear will be joined by a new spin-off show, Extra Gear.
Filmed each week at the Top Gear studio immediately after the main show, Extra Gear will be presented by new Top Gear presenter Rory Reid, and will feature half an hour of behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and also specially recorded films. Extra Gear will be broadcast on BBC Three and also on BBC iPlayer, immediately after Top Gear has aired on BBC Two.
While speaking about Extra Gear, Rory Reid said: “The Top Gear fans are some of the keenest in the world and with this show I’m giving them a chance to really get a peek behind the curtain. I’m looking forward to showing them how the show is made and what goes on behind the scenes, giving viewers a different perspective on some of the coolest cars on the planet.”
The BBC has also promised overseas viewers that Extra Gear will be available on BBC America and BBC Brit, while those without access to either of those channels will have to check their local listings for details.
