The Grand Tour: Series 3, Episode 6: ‘Chinese food for thought’

  • The boys head to Chongqing with three second-hand executive limos
  • Jeremy Clarkson tests the Honqi L5 Limousine
  • Richard Hammond power tests the NIO EP9 electric supercar at the Eboladrome

Episode Guide

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are in the vast Chinese megacity of Chongqing with some valuable consumer advice for business people across all of China; don’t spend huge sums on a brand new luxury car when you could pop over to Europe, buy a second-hand executive limo and ship it home for a fraction of the cost.

To prove their point, the three hosts tour the city and beyond in an old Mercedes S600, an ageing BMW 750iL and a 20-year-old Cadillac STS, encountering a door empire, a sinister camera network, a flame spitting drone and a range of in-car entertainment features along the way.

Chongqing is regarded by many as the Detroit of China, and sources suggest that the boys will be filming a piece investigating the industrial development of the city’s car industry. Clarkson will also be testing the Hongqi L5 Limousine – something he was very much looking forward to.

Also in this show, The Grand Tour discovers an ultra-fast electric supercar called the NIO EP9 and foolishly gives the job of testing it to Richard Hammond.

I wonder why, I thought they were all very well behaved during the episode. I guess we’ll never know.

Main problem are the last words about GFW of the show and Clarkson called Hongqi(the Chairman leader car)A car for vilian and evil.Such words are not acceptable to our gov. So they shut down this exact episode(Others survive)

This season is just a lot of old TG re-hashes, I like it.

Was Richard’s crash real?

Andy Chen February 16, 2019 at 1:54 am

No for sure, much like the Yugo crash in TG S16 or Jag crash from last season GT,an empty car thrown.Too dangerous for Richard to crash in such a small 3 wheeler

Andy Chen February 15, 2019 at 1:50 pm

The trio drive 3 used car you can get in China from Germany in China. And during the test of Hongqi and the used car, there’s a few politically sensitive contents in China.Let alone they refered to GFW here as well in the end.So probably this episode wont be allowed here……
