Fans of The Grand Tour may have given the show rave reviews when it finally began on Amazon Prime last week, but the second episode has left viewers divided as the trio took part in a special forces training mission and pitched their tent in Johannesburg.
Many of those tuning into Operation Desert Stumble called the explosive instalment “diabolical” and begged the presenters to “be more natural”.
Taking to social media, one viewer tweeted: “#TheGrandTour S02: Whenever the guys just do stuff for flashy pictures & comedy without car/ road trip ‘reasons’ it turns into a weak episode.”
While another added: “That episode was really meh. The scripting is getting pretty annoying and a lot of the jokes fell flat #TheGrandTour.”
A third shared: “#TheGrandTour was absolutely diabolical tonight – I don’t get the point of it. About as funny as standing on a plug too.”
“#TheGrandTour Episode 1, 5 stars. Episode 2, what the fuck was that about. Don’t do that again. Be better next week please,” another begged.
Others however loved the action-packed instalment and raved about the impressive stunts and explosive scenes as one fan wrote on Twitter: “The SAS thing on #TheGrandTour is the most ridiculous thing they’ve ever done, and I loved every second.”
Another continued: “#TheGrandTour episode 2 was comedy gold, such a good episode.”
Amazon likely won’t be too phased by the critical remarks: the first episode of the series – which requires an Amazon Prime membership to watch – broke previous streaming records for the company.
Meanwhile, Clarkson has spoken candidly about how much the show cost to make. Earlier in the week, Netflix boss Ted Serandos claimed Amazon paid upwards of $250 million for the show.
The presenter responded in a recent interview by saying the number was much smaller than that, saying: “I mean, look at me. Do I look like I’m earning millions of dollars a year.”

Series 4 episode 2 I’ve brought my 17 year old son up with the 3 lads he could name car brands before he could say daddy but I’ve honestly got to say that is the worst episode I’ve seen over the many years me and my son have watched them everyone can make mistakes but come on lads I know you can produce much much better my son turned it off after half hour and that’s the first time he’s ever done that !!
I enjoyed the “Edge of Tomorrow” silliness.
Totally agree about The American. Couldn’t you have just given Ben Collins the job?
Lets be honest. The American has to go.
“I mean, look at me. Do I look like I’m earning millions of dollars a year.”
Clarkson, you look just as you did when you were on Top Gear, earning millions of dollars a year, so yes – you do look like you’re earning millions of dollars a year. You’re still living in Chipping Norton, right?
IT is the grand tour version of call of duty or other war games like halo or counter strike because in the challenge section: THEY DOING NOTHING BUT RESETTING THEMSELVES!!!

Overall the second episode was a bit shoddy. The Jordan episode was unnecessary and a bit too lengthy. Also the Vulcan review was not that good when compared to Chris Harris review (Top Gear).
Yes you cannot please all people why include something for the sake of non-car people ?
I like their cheap adventures much better. Just the three of them on a real trip and cocking about instead of fake challenges.
Was dull after the Aston part. Nearly dozed off!
You just can’t please some people. I thought it was a great episode.
It was a “terrible disappointment”
cause we know they could do better…
