The Grand Tour Colombia Special – What we know so far

Quite some time has passed since the second series of The Grand Tour came to an end. But some fans of the Amazon Prime show may be surprised to hear that there’s one crucial episode from the series which still hasn’t been released yet. The Colombia Special.

Unfortunately for us all, details on The Grand Tour’s Colombia Special are thin on the ground. But so far, thanks to various posts on social media, we’ve been able to learn a little about what we might be able to expect.

In the Colombia Special, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will take a trio of off-roaders across the South American country of Colombia. From photos released so far, it is clear that Clarkson opted for a black Jeep Wrangler, Hammond went for a massively lifted flame-red Chevrolet Silverado, and May a Fiat Panda 4×4 – which is something only he could pull off.

Details of what exactly the trio are doing in Colombia is also unknown – but we imagine it may have something to do with the Colombian drug overlord Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria and the country’s fearsome drug trafficking industry. The boy’s journey is said to have started in Cartagena – one of Colombia’s major port cities- and they were also later spotted rolling into the country’s capital, Bogota.

The Colombia Special will be the first episode of The Grand Tour to be filmed in South America, and also the first time Clarkson, Hammond, and May have filmed there together since Top Gear’s infamous Patagonia Special. Let’s hope things ended a little better this time around.

So why hasn’t it been released yet? Well, the Colombia Special was originally scheduled to be filmed in October 2017, however, following Clarkson’s bout of pneumonia, these plans were delayed until January 2018. Due to the late filming of the episode, The Colombia Special was never going to be ready in time for The Grand Tour’s Series 2 run.

So when can we expect to see it? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarkson revealed that it would likely go to air in ‘mid-2018’ as a standalone episode – so hopefully we’ll hear more about that soon.

In the meantime, let us know what you’re hoping to see in the comments below.
