The Bugatti Veyron is being recalled, just like a regular car

Once heralded as being the pinnacle of automotive engineering and design, it turns out the Bugatti Veyron is actually just a regular car after all and is subject to recalls just like all the other Fiat/Chrysler or Takata airbag equipped vehicles out there. In this case, up to 87 Veyrons built between 2006 and 2011 are being recalled for three different issues.

The first issue is a faulty fuel gauge that, according to the release “may cause a driver to unexpectedly run out of fuel and the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.” While we don’t imagine at lot of Veyron owners would be performing speed runs on low fuel, you’d at least hope the fuel gauge on your million dollar sports car would be accurate.

The second issue which Bugatti has identified is a battery cable that corrodes and “may result in the battery positive cable overheating, increasing the risk of a fire.” We imagine most Veyron owners would prefer to not have their cars catch on fire – they would have bought a Ferrari or a Lamborghini if they wanted that to happen.

Lastly, there’s an issue with under-body jacking plates corroding and falling off. While this poses little risk to the vehicle itself, it could potentially drop off and ricochet into the path of other vehicles – kind of like when the floor fell out of Paul Walker’s eclipse in The Fast and the Furious. Only less dramatic and without all the rivets popping out.

So there you have it – even Veyron owners aren’t immune from things going wrong with their vehicles.

The Concorde incident, but on the road and not a runway.
