Mercedes-Benz “X-Class” pickup coming late 2016

Last year we learned that Mercedes-Benz had begun development a new pickup truck vehicle, but other than the artist’s impression shown above and that it will be based on the Nissan Navara NP300’s architecture, we still don’t know that much about it.

However, AutoExpress has reported that an anonymous source from within Mercedes has confirmed that the vehicle will be unveiled “near the end of the year,” with the Paris show in October the most likely place to do so. The vehicle shown will most likely still be in ‘concept’ form, however it should give us a much better idea of the design direction Mercedes has chosen, and whether the final vehicle will be a workhorse aimed at upper-class tradesman, or whether it’ll be a far more luxurious proposition.

The new truck was originally thought to be called the GLT-Class, but rumours now say it will be called the X-Class. It’ll also be interesting to see how much of the Navara is visible in the concept.

After the concept debuts later this year, expect the production version to go on sale in late 2017.
