Top Gear Series 25 release date, first episode details

We always knew Top Gear was going to return once The Grand Tour Series 2 was out of the way, but I never suspected it’d be the very next week! That’s right, Episode 1 of Top Gear Series 25 kicks off in the UK this Sunday, and here’s what you can expect.

The V8 engine. In the modern world of gastric-band-spec emissions regulations, the favourite of petrolheads worldwide should be a relic. Deceased. An ex-engine. But it isn’t. Because, gloriously, the V8 keeps evolving. Developing. Moving with the times. So with 2018 marking, as you’ll all know, the 116th anniversary of the most enduring sports car engine of them all, it seemed the perfect time for a little celebration. So Matt, Chris and Rory each chose their ultimate all-round V8 sports car, and headed to Utah’s Wild West for a series of challenges.

Rory arrived in a Jaguar F-Type SVR, while Chris went practical in the shape of the McLaren 570GT. Which is a practical, spacious GT car in very much the same way a pair of rollerblades is a practical, spacious GT car. Matt, in patriotic fashion, opted for a Ford Mustang GT350 R. But not just any Ford Mustang GT350 R. A Ford Mustang GT350 R tuned by a man called John Hennessey, that tune being approximately 800bhp.

V8 weapons selected, the trio set off on a motorsport-inspired pilgrimage across the States, a pilgrimage including oval track racing, a visit to the Bonneville Salt Flats… and a moonshine run to the border. Being hotly pursued by Officer Kenneth Block.

Plus, Rob Brydon is in the studio as the Star in a Reasonably Fast Car.

Top Gear Series 25 kicks off in the UK this Sunday, 25 February at 8pm on BBC Two and BBC Two HD.

for some reason, the studio shot makes it feels like it was taken from US Top Gear instead

I do miss the old Top Gear set. It was nowhere near as flashy and some parts looked a bit shit – what with the old green leather car seats.

The tent will grow on us soon and it will replace old Top Gear set. 🙂 It’s just a matter of time.

In my opinion the hole show is like Top Gear US. More than that, Top Gear US was better.

i understand that the new top gear tries to cater to new, supposedly young audience, but making it feels american (while being less good), is clearly a wrong approach. we watched top gear bbc for the british-y feel, and the US top gear as a change of pace, or ambience. now the lines are blurred. too blur, in fact.
