Chris Harris: New TG will ‘absolutely not’ work

It looks like Chris Harris once thought Top Gear absolutely would not work without Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

In a blog post written last March, when ‘fracas-gate’ was in full swing, Harris said the BBC would be “absolutely mad” for trying to continue the show with different presenters. “Does TG work without Jeremy? Probably not. Does it work without Richard and James too – absolutely not,” he wrote.

“I think the BBC would be completely mad to try and maintain the same format with three new people, but I don’t doubt it will try. I genuinely think that if James and Richard choose not to continue then the format has to die with them. No one can ever do with it what they have, because they defined it in the first place.” – Chris Harris, March 2015.

Harris also admitted in the same blog post that his presenting skills were not up to Top Gear standard, although he has shown in the past that he can at least talk to camera whilst driving.

He went on to say, “The only creative rule I have ever consistently adhered to is to never try and be TG. Never try to be too funny. Don’t go on adventures. Don’t do anything that could usher you into direct comparison with TG because you will automatically look shit.”

I wonder what was responsible for his change of heart? Perhaps a big bag of money from the BBC…

I severely doubt that new TG will be anything like TG with the boys. Look forward to a return to very old TG from the 1990s
