The Grand Tour

A look at The Grand Tour Series 2 in numbers

With The Grand Tour Series 2 at an end, now is a great time to look back at the series as a whole and some of the numbers involved in creating the incredible episodes we saw.

Β£11,000,000 worth of cars tested

An Aston Martin DB4, Jaguar XKSS, Tesla Model X, Lamborghini Huracan Performante, Ripsaw EV2, Ford GT and Ariel Nomad. These are just some of the cars which appeared on The Grand Tour Series 2 – and you’ll be surprised to know that the total value of all the vehicles featured adds up to around Β£11,000,000!

700,000 collective miles flown

The boys visited many countries in order to film all of the pieces required for The Grand Tour Series 2. Obviously the entire cast and crew needed to come along for the ride, and a total of 700,000 miles were flown.

2,000 hours of footage shot

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May don’t always get their lines right, and over 2,000 hours of footage were shot for The Grand Tour Series 2. Some say almost 10 hours of the footage featured Richard Hammond crashing.

160 – combined aged of presenters

It’s no secret that the boys are not getting any younger – what with their combined ages adding up to 160…

100 days of travelling

100 days were spent on the road (or in the air) in order to film The Grand Tour Series 2. That’s more than 3 months!

63 cars used

The cars are still the stars of The Grand Tour Series 2 – and you might be interested to know that some 63 vehicles were featured.

14 countries visited

14 lucky countries were blessed with a visit from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. If your country wasn’t one of them, better luck next time!

1 world record broken

More often than not, the boys are ambitious but rubbish… but on this occasion they managed to get it together! We’re of course talking about Clarkson’s water speed record at Coniston Speed Week, piloting the “Pond Bug” – 47.81mph for the ‘experimental amphibious unlimited’ class. Good job chaps!

1 broken leg

Richard Hammond had yet another high-speed crash during filming for The Grand Tour Series 2 – although this time it was rather more fiery than usual. Hammond broke his leg when the Rimac Concept One electric supercar he was driving left a mountain road in St Gallen in northeastern Switzerland and burst into flames. All things considered, it could have been far worse.

1 bout of pneumonia

Jeremy Clarkson spent three nights spasming in his bed before a doctor sent him for tests at the hospital – where it was revealed that he had a bout of pneumonia so severe that he could have died. “It’s really really annoying because I’ve never had one day off work since I started in 1978,” he said at the time.

1 undisclosed illness

Er… James May was completely fine – and definitely wasn’t admitted to hospital suffering an undisclosed illness…

Series 1 & 2 combined:

  • Over 200 cars used
  • Over 35 cars destroyed
  • 16 damaged hire cars
  • 5 cars sunk

Me is thanking you for all your work!

I am a huge fan of Top Gear (2002-2015), TGT and also Fifth Gear, in the third place, of course.
For that, almost every news or article written here was a joy for me, literally, beause it brings me to the so beautiful world and story that Jeremy and Andy have created.

I have saved some of your pages with summary of episodes for the times when I am traveling, they are brilliant, it’s like I am watching that episode. Those little screnshots are enough for me to pomp up my mood. Also, of course I have some TG episodes permanently in my phone! πŸ™‚

It’s crazy, you may think that one day I will get bored. But how, TG, TGT and FG put together will be hundreds of episodes, maybe a thousand, who knows?!
Even more, all this present shows will be pure gold in the future, pure gold! The old ones will be diamond! πŸ™‚
I even don’t want to think about it, about the future, I want at least 10 season from now of TGT! All they need is health and just little crashes! πŸ™‚ Just little, to not have big ones!

Even more, I apologize to you for writing this after 2 years since I am visiting your site, but I very rarely write on the internet, so I have a scuze.
But now, I realise that I must reveal myself, I am to much of a fan to stay so quiet!

And I want to offer some feedback to the boys that I will be forever grateful for blessing my soul since 2002. And with TGT S02, they did it brilliantly, again! For me, TGT S02 was very beautiful. I must re-watch S01, I am sure it will grow up on me, as all TG grow over time, like a good wine.

I am such a fan, that I eat with headphones on my ears, watching TG or Fifth Gear (TGT not yet, but with season 2, I will). Of course, in those cases when I am not with my family. πŸ™‚

A forever bow from me for the guys, especially for The Urangutan :D, and also for you to, and it’s no exaggeration, you keept me in the world of Clarkson even when I couldn’t watch he’s creations.

In the last 15 years, when I was down or I had some problems that affected my mental strength, a episode or 3 of TG, and, like a SF movie, I was back on track! That influence had those guys creation for me is crazy! Even my beautiful wife is encourage me to watch some TG if she sees me not well. πŸ™‚

I hope from bottom of my heart that somebody of TGT team wil read this and forword it to all the team. They must know what they did to me and I can’t even imagine how many ears from now I will watch their shows. The rest of my life, definitely!

And not the last: let’s ask Richard to put those guys on a diet, ASP, especialy The Urangutan! πŸ˜€ At least to eat some fruit and vegetables! πŸ™‚

PS. I tried to write as good I know, sorry for my english.

The record broken by the Pond Bug was a British National Record, not a world record.

Technically there is, but I’m unsure at this stage whether it will be part of Series 2 or stand alone. Regardless, it is months away so we’re done for now πŸ™‚
