Hennessey Venom GT Spyder claims fastest convertible record

The newly revised Hennessey Venom GT Spyder has claimed the record of being the world’s fastest production convertible, after hitting a top speed of 427.4km/h (265.6mph). Hennessey’s claim was verified by Racelogic, which had officials on hand to inspect the results.

The Venom GT’s maximum speed of 427.4km/h surpasses the 408.8km/h set by the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse in Germany back in 2013, but is just shy of the 435.3km/h set by the less powerful Venom GT coupe. The high speed run was achieved at the Naval Air Station Lenmoore, California, and the car was driven by Brian Smith, director of the Ford Performance Racing School.

The revised Venom GT features a more powerful 7.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine which develops 1082kW (1451hp) of power and 1745Nm (1287lb-ft) of torque at 4200rpm. All that fury is then sent to the ground through a 6-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. It iis said to be capable of a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of under 2.4 seconds and can hit 200mph (322km/h) before 13 seconds have passed.

Yet more proof that the Veyron is seriously overrated as a car. Also, when are they going to start making the F5?
